「建前いいけど実際ダメ」とか「原則ダメだけど目をつむってあげる」なことすごく多かったみたいで、例えば関所だって手形なきゃ絶対通れなかったイメージありますが、実際には手形を持たぬ通行人でも役人が見て無害と判断すれば、「ならぬならぬ！関所を何と心得ておるか！」とわざとらしく怒りながら、通行人が行きたい方向へ背中を「押し返し」て通してくれたそうですよ。
